Albert Marino brings over 30 years of experience in the finance and investment sectors to his advisory role at FullCycle.
Albert was a co-founder of Claren Road Asset Management, LLC (a long-short credit hedge fund with peak assets of $8.5 billion). Mr. Marino helped establish Claren Road in 2005 and initially was Head of Research until 2009 when he became the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. Albert retired from Claren Road in mid-2018. While at Claren Road, Mr. Marino managed an analyst team from 2006 to 2009 that helped achieve positive fund performance each year with average annualized returns of 15%. While Chief Operating Officer, he led a 40 global team with functions including, trade operations, treasury management, accounting, technology, legal and compliance. Albert was responsible for the firm’s counterparty relationships and operation due diligence performed by fund investors. He led the consummation of strategic transactions at the management company with Citigroup, GS Petershill and Carlyle Group. Mr. Marino was a director on the boards of Claren Roads funds.
Prior to his experience at Claren Road, Albert was a credit research analyst at Citigroup from 2002-2005. Initially he focused on the merchant power, power project and distressed utility sectors and subsequently became a desk analyst working directly with the head of US corporate credit trading on proprietary trades.
Mr. Marino previously had 10 years of experience in project finance at WestLB, Newcourt Capital/CIT and Prudential Insurance Company America. His roles included principal investment, transaction structuring and syndication and senior roles in the creation of several private equity funds dedicated to infrastructure investments.
Mr. Marino has a B.S. from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He serves on alumni advisory committees for both institutions and is on the loan committee of Capital Sisters International, a micro finance charity.
Currently Mr. Marino resides in London, UK with his wife and daughter and is investing in early stage, primarily female led companies, with his wife through their family office, Acacia Advisers, LLC.
